I can't say I understand a lot about psychology, or about Les Snead.
But I have heard often enough that one of the most important lessons Snead learned was when we moved down and missed out on drafting Bobby Wagner.
The ghost of Bobby Wagner is in our draft war room, and when they make the decision that a player is clearly the person that they want and believe in, they are not going to fool around and miss out on them the way they did on Wagner.
In this case "not missing out" on Fiske meant spending what it would take, especially when it looked like a run on DTs was underway.
I'm not saying Fiske will have a career like Wagner, but I think once they were able to get Verse they were dead set on adding Fiske as well. I love that we added two top pass rushing pieces to our line, and that if they work out at all we will have four young, rising studs on the DL for the next 3 years. This DL really does have the potential to be the beating heart of our defense.
And then we added two additional high-potential players at the same positions later in the draft, to hedge our bets a little. Predicting NFL performance is hard, but I really think we did a great job of setting ourselves up for success this year.
