Rampage2K-
of course not, lol...but they won't go DT either based strictly on "need" it is a balancing act and the Rams have proven to be pretty good at it.
I don't think picking defense with 3-4 of the first picks is the way to go about drafting is the best way to fix a flat tire is the point
First, DT is not necessarily the "need" it's one of them. Edge is probably the biggest need. But so are other positions. My point is
you don't draft a guy just because he's the BPA
And example is IOL. Rams won't take a center or guard in 1st round -- they don't need one.
But my point was you said " if you draft strictly for "need" you are doing it wrong." and I said no one does that. No one drafts "strictly" for need
that's my only point.
No one is saying the will "picking defense with 3-4 of the first picks". Snead explained the deal, and that's what he's always said
it's case by case, it's based on a mix of getting players that are graded high, that fit the scheme and that also fill needs.
There could be a guy -- offense or defense --- that doesn't fit what Rams do, he might be the BPA but not a scheme fit so they'd pass on him
Rams run a certain defense, they won't pick guys that don't fit, stuff like that.
No one goes "strictly" for anything, not strickly BPA nor strickly needs --- it's a mix of that
