On this date in 1991—Rams release Mel Owens…Owens spent 9 seasons with the Rams…122-games, 91 starts…became a starter in 1983…had 9-sacks in 1985…a really good player, but overdrafted at 1/9/1981-Michigan…Rams traded #20, #52, and #105 to Washington to jump from 20 to #9 to take Owens…This was not a Don Klosterman trade…#20 turns into Mark May a fixture with the Hogs and appears in three Super Bowls for the Redskins.

That 1981 Draft—Had #2 Lawrence Taylor, #4 Kenny Easley, #8 Ronnie Lott…#38 Michael Singletary, #48 Howie Long, #51 Rickey Jackson, #69 Russ Grimm…That’s 7 Hall of Famers in the First 100…and I didn’t mention…Freeman McNeil, Hugh Green, Keith Van Horne, Dennis Smith, James Brooks, Neil Lomax, James Wilder, Cris Collinsworth, Eric Wright, Joe Delaney,

The Rams took Jim Collins at #43…#63 Greg Meisner…the most prominent player out of the next 10 they drafted…was Jairo Penaranda 12/328/1981..

Do you want to look at Don Klosertman’s last draft in 1980?
Johnnie Johnson, Irv Pankey, Jewerl Thomas, Leroy Irvin, Mike Guman, Kirk Collins, Gerry Ellis, George Farmer (9/248/1980), and a guy we’ll talk about in a few weeks…Terry Greer.

1981 was Klosterman's draft and his trade. He was still the GM. John Math was personnel it was a Math/Klosterman show with Klosterman still using his experience in the process.

It was Math's first as lead dog. In 1980 is was a Dick Steinberg working with Klosterman for the 1980 draft...maybe you were thinking that? or in 1982 when Faulkner and Math (and Malavasi) were the main men?

1980 was a weak year -- not a lot of talent, but what there was the Rams got. They traded up to get Johnson --- but hitting on Pankey and Irvin and Guman and the rest was some good work. So many teams missed their picks because it was not like 1983, for example, when there was 1st round talent pretty deep.

Anyway, good memories. Do disagree with Durant being a boundary CB. If we were to play outside I don't think it's even be to the boundary. Would need help, see him as a FC, and also as a slot. Though you seem to disagree with that. I don't the 2023 was a great year, but he showed a lot as a star/slot but don;t see him as a boundary corner at all. But that's just me.
