I don't mean to sound like a jerk but if you don't see something THAT special in Newton and Murphy, then you haven't been paying attention. .
But I have seen a little bit of football in my time and a lot of defensive tackle prospects. Maybe definitions need to be explained.
By "THAT" I mean compared to other drafts and being worth trading up for. I have seen a lot of guys who are considered these kind of can't miss
prospects, and can give examples
Javon Kinlaw -- 14th overall. You want him? I remember how good Star Lotulelei and Glen Dorsey were supposed to be. B.J. Raji, Corey Liuget, Tyson Alualu, Marcell Dareus, Nick Fairley?
So, yeah, there are some great ones that come out of the first round but you don;t know if these guys are going to be good or busts or somewhere in the middle.
Rams scouted Kobie Turner (3rd round) and maybe they can pick a winner this year in round 2-3. Chris Jones is 2nd rounder.
There are also busts in rounds 2-3.
So, no, I don't always buy all the hype on players.
I have not seen tons but I have looked at Newton and Murphey and I don't see "can't miss" -- I see yeah, maybe. They don't look like people you will regret missing if you got a good player in their place.
If you drop in 1st round and still get elite talent at, say 25 or so, then get a good DT on 2nd round ... I'd have no problem with it.
I'd be happy with a Justin Madubuike -- Ravens got him on third round. He is better than the "special" guys in his draft class.
