If you are a bad to average team, you want more picks
to shore up several positions to become at least a good team.
If you are a good to very good team attempting to be a Super Bowl team,
I think what you need, are "difference makers", and so you do not need many picks
just a few picks of players who would give you the edge in playoff games.
Depends on too many factors.
Rams, to be better, need to get and edge. And also need to get an interior player
and need young CBs (White- 1 year deal, Williams 2-year deal), need WRs
only have a few on contract after this year.
And if you want good ones---you need to get them in 1st 3 rounds, check out the
success.failure rate of the rounds ...
So, in one case, if you can get a great rushers, you know will be great, sure go get him.
But in the case of Newton and Murphy, not seeing anything THAT special about them
so that they are so much better than the 2nd round-graded guys.
So, trading back for a good team is as viable as trading up. IMO, there are no hard and fast
rules that say Rams think they can get to SB by trading a pair of 1s and a couple of 2s to get into
top 10, let's say.
Makes as much sense, in a deep draft, to get an extra pick or two in the top 50,75 or so, while still
getting as good a player at, say, 27 as they would at 19.
