To me the question is no longer about the deal he signed. It's all about this season.
As it stands Boom is slated to make $15M this year and that's way too much for a backup OL. If they can whittle that down to even $5M I'd say do it - that seems like fair pay for the role he'd be in and would be a $10M cap savings this year.
But if they can't come to terms on something in that range I think they gotta let him go.
That being said I can't imagine Noteboom thinks he could get more than $5M a year on the open market so maybe they will work it out.
