And if I'm reading your post right, it sounds like you're saying Goff is still the same guy, just getting good protection and open 1st reads again.
And that that's all he can do.
I just don't believe a QB can survive in the NFL, let alone thrive as Goff has, if he can't go through progressions. DC's would exploit that quickly.
And I have watched Goff a lot including film analysis. He definitely finds that 2nd or 3rd option when necessary.
Sure, when you have a receiver like St. Brown, if he's the first read there's a good chance he'll be open. But St. Brown isn't so awesome that he simply can't ever be covered,
Goff spreads the ball all around and will take what the defense gives.
The Rams took away St. Brown early and LaPorta, although playing, just wasn't able to move like he normally does. But then Josh Reynolds was open so Goff went with that. And it was throws to Reynolds early that really hurt the Ram defense.
Later, he was able to begin getting it to St. Brown, and even some of those were tight window throws. But the Rams realized they couldn't just take away his best receiver and stymie him that way.
The game boils down to 2 good offenses but only 1 good defense - the 9ers. It will take superior play against that good defense to stay even or win.
