Or that owners currently have a bias toward Offensive Coordinator types?

Morris has the "gift of gab" if you will. It comes across in all his interviews and he is supposedly a very likable person. I bet he interviews just fine. In fact, I bet it's his strong suit. I don't think his interviewing skills are his issue.

As for the "bias" angle...has the league been biased toward offensive guys for the last 14 years? There has been plenty of HC's hired that were defensive guys.

Brandon Staley is one of the most recent ones that comes to mind. Gotta be something else IMO.

Morris is definitely one glib mofo, dude. Gotta give him that.

Serves him very well most of the time. Players love him and friendly beat writers just eat up his answers to their softball questions in pressers.

But interviewing privately with an owner and GM for a HC position is a whole different animal.

They are gonna probe him mercilessly for weaknesses and product knowledge for hours.

Such as:

His philosophy on developing their O?
His philosophy on developing their D?
What, specifically, does he plan for each of their 3 units?
How well does he know their current player roster?
What is his assessment of strengths and weaknesses of their current players?
What is his assessment of their current assistant coaches?
What coaches does he plan to bring with him, and why?
Which current coaches does he plan to replace?
How would he handle specific hypothetical challenges one after another? (And they may throw dozens of these at him)
How does he do adjustments during the game? And why?
How does he defend his ‘soft’ D philosophy of recent years? And why?

Meanwhile, they are constantly evaluating his confidence level and perceived leadership skills every step of the way.

There are only 32 such jobs in the world and an interview like that will quickly peel away the shallow glibness that works so well in friendly pressers from any candidate, I assure you.

THAT was what I was alluding to when I suggested he may not ‘interview well’.

The 30 year old Sean McVay aced such an interview on his first try, but Morris has been bypassed for 14 years now. Sooooo…

I’ll believe Morris gets a HC job when I see it.

Will Raheem Morris be left out again?

BerendsenRam346January 18, 2024 05:18PM

My guess....no, he'll land a HC job. (nm)

  It's a coin flip

If Belichick Takes Over in Atlanta Morris will be back.

den-the-coach81January 19, 2024 03:26AM

At this point, it’s on Raheem.

14 years between job offers is a very long time

  "Interim" means "most convenient"

Ramsdude71January 19, 2024 05:11AM

That may be the most compelling argument of all

Honestly he's probably the 5th best candidate at best

17-31 record, no playoffs as HC

L.A.Rams56January 19, 2024 06:10AM

Could it be that Morris just doesn’t interview well?
