We all know Williams and Maye are gone. I also see no scenario where Daniels gets outside of pick 10, let alone pick 19.
so that leaves Penix Jr., McCarthy and Nix.
Penix, 24 years old, multiple ACL tears. That said, probably the most arm talent in the draft and absolutely the best deep ball. High character and leadership traits as well. Being left handed makes Havs the blindside protector...
McCarthy, turns 21 on the 20th of Jan. Ran a pro style offense with a great OL and 2 very good RBs. Wasn't asked to take over a game. Was more of a game manager. Very accurate, mobile enough to extend plays with his legs and run on occasion. Big arm with a good deep ball. I like Penix's ball placement more than Nix or McCarthy, but McCarthy is very accurate with very good mechanics. Took too many sacks leading me to believe he is a tad slow on processing. Only 20, he has a ton of upside.
Nix, turns 24 at the end of Feb, of the 3, the weakest arm, but strong enough to make all the NFL throws. Very mobile, inside and outside of the pocket. Of the 3, his mechanics are the least clean. Can he read a defense? IDK.
Penix is the safest, McCarthy has the highest upside and Nix falls somewhere inbetween.
NFL ready: Penix, Nix then McCarthy. Last 2 are a coin flip IMO.
Mobility: Nix, McCarthy and Penix
I have to think if the Rams like Penix, so do the Vikings. Same for the other 2. He is QB 4 to me. McCarthy needs to add good weight, and learn behind someone for a year. Perfect late round 1 type. Nix could start day 1, but I'm concerned how his game translates to the NFL. And his ceiling. Round 2.
Who needs a QB?
Bears 1st overall maybe, maybe not.
Washington at 2? yes.
Patriots at 3? Yup.
Giants at 6? I don't think so
Falcons at 8? yes
Vikings at 11? Yes, unless Cousins comes back
Raiders at 13? yes, but they aren't that smart
Steelers at 20? Yes
I can see the Bears ransoming that first pick to Washington or NE, and taking Harrison Jr to pair with Fields since they were teammates at Ohio state and Harrison is generational.
That places Washington and NE with Williams and Maye, Would the Giants take Daniels to replace Daniels? Maybe, either way Daniels doesn't get past the Falcons. That places Penix with Minn or the Raiders. Or the Steelers trade up to grab Penix. Either way, for the Rams I think it comes down to McCarthy in the 1st or trading back and taking Nix later.
