My gut reaction is the same as most here. A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. And Dotson has performed, admirably. But if the choice is between paying $17.5 annually versus finding another PRO then I at least give Snead the chance to kick the tires. How did they evaluate Dotson and are there others like him that we could acquire?
Definitely think drafting another guard gives cause for concern, but Dotson was acquired like Corbett - a pro that the Rams liked. Heck, I'd like the Rams to get another backup G even if they sign Dotson. Having a backup who plays both OT and G may not be as good as quality backups for a single G to backup both Gs as well one T to backup LT/RT.
I just don't see it as cut and dried as 'pay the man no matter what it costs.' Snead made it work twice now acquiring guards who are already pros, so he may let Dotson get that high comp pick and find his next one.
