Goff is a good QB. He looks exactly like he did for the Rams in 2018. The offense absolutely does not revolve around him. It is built around play action passing and the Lions ridiculous run game. Goff is not a great QB
When he has to drop back and pass which Detroit doesn’t want to do that’s when he has problem. Just like with the Rams in 2017 and 2018 his first read is always open and he is always going to that first read. That will work today and against other bad teams they play. It will not work against the Eagles or 9ers. He’s good enough to beat the Cowboys. IMO
Love the team the Lions have put together tho. Really impressive
Detroit is a very good team. AND....
Is JG a "great' QB? I'd say he's a very good QB, somewhere in the #5-7 range. Certainly, he's is a better QB than he was in 2018. Better coaching, more experience, and a major hand in helping create the offense the Lions run will do that.
Does the offense "revolve" around him? No more than around most QBs in the league, but unlike most he can carry the offense when he has to - and has coaches who (with good reason) trust him to do so. To say that "when he has to drop back and pass which Detroit doesn’t want to do that’s when he has problem" - complete nonsense. No one who's watched Goff for the past two years - as I have - could come to that conclusion.
"His first read is always open." Ummmmm - not so much. First of all, Jared regularly goes to the line w/5 play calls and all kinds variation off each of those. Pundits used to marvel when Russell Wilson had three. His ability to read and manipulate defense is outstanding. His command of the offense is outstanding. He moves thru his progressions quickly and decisively. The Lions, btw, are 15-4 over their last 19, and it's overwhelmingly because of their offense. W/the exception of Amon-Ra St. Brown - who's an excellent move-the-chains guy but hardly a game breaker - he's had zero above-average receivers to work with. Josh Reynolds is his #2 right now. Jameson Williams has one more drop than reception in his professional career. Goff often has to move beyond his first read, his second... weird take.
The Lions are 15-4 over their last 19, that success is driven by their offense, and Jared Goff is the one constant.
