Yes, the 49ers went out and got Chase Young. Because they are in a position, like the Rams were in 2021, where they very well might be a player away from winning it all. Any acquisition the Rams made, on the other hand, might be the difference between 7 wins and 9. And that's it. This is simply not that type of year to go out and make a splash deadline trade. As fun as they can be, it would be for headlines, not help.
And as far as the backup QBs go, well, we can all second guess (I sure have) drafting Bennett. But they did draft an SEC QB with 30+ starts, two national titles and Heisman finalist. So it's not that they ignored the position. They made the wrong choice. There's a difference. Also, take a look around the league and see how many teams have 'good' backup QB situations. 5? 6? 7? It's a position most teams roll the dice they will not have to use.
Anyway, on both counts I don't really buy the complaints. 2023 is what it is.
