In no particular order.
Running game needs to be developed. OL, RB, playcalling, more play action… All of them? This team can go far if they can establish an effective running game. Might be Job One for McVay.
TE corps is being neglected. It has potential, of course, but potential doesn’t accomplish a damned thing unless the players are deployed, such as 12 sets, and USED. It’s been a perennial blind spot in McVay’s arsenal for years now. Let’s see some more Hopkins or Allen, dammit!
And finally, McVay has got to learn how to avoid tunnel vision when playcalling. His ignoring Thomas’ struggles was unforgivable. And where where was his wingman LaFleur during that fiasco? Taking a damned nap? Also unforgivable.
This O could be a top 5 unit IF McVay starts using all of his weapons efficiently. Hopefully, McVay will make appropriate adjustments before facing the Colts. The pieces are already in place on O, so it’s just a matter of using them properly.
Thoughts?
I always thought the ex-tight ends coach would come in and lay the wood at that position, and when we drafted Everett, man I was excited. We've never capitalized that role, aside from a few games. Don't know if that's ever going to change.
On the running game, fix the line and you'll have one. We're undersized at Center and aside from Avila, we just don't have the horses. Our runs are based off misdirection and gadget plays half the time to compensate. We can pull off some power runs here and there, but we can't just lay it down and grind yards. I know everyone wants a new RB, but it we don't improve the line, what's the point?
Despite all that, you're right 43. We got the fiddle. Just needs some tuning and to be played right. And McVay knows how to play it, he's just got to get back to the fundamentals.
