Stafford's cap hit this year is $20M. If they traded him his cap hit would have been $74M.
The Rams dead money would double from their current $74.23M to $148.23M, they'd have to trim another $44M just to get under the cap, and they'd have around $76.57M with which to build a roster.
Donald, Kupp, Havs, Boom, and Higbee take up about $68.66M of that, leaving $7.91M for the other 48 players. Note that the NFL minimum salary is $750,000 so even if all 48 players were rookies their combined cap hit would be $36M
Doesn't that make any discussion about trading Stafford kind of senseless?
