I wouldn't be surprised if there was a grain of truth. There was talk early on that if the Jets didn't land Rogers they'd go after Stafford. And Snead made it pretty clear that no one was safe this last offseason.
That said, there's a difference between actively trying to trade a guy and letting it be known for the right price a guy is available.
