Maybe they get lucky and there is an UDFA or USFL guy or whatever that can come in and be a steady presence at K. But of the Rams' FA departures/cuts I would say Gay might leave the biggest hole behind. But I totally get that the Rams were simply not in position this spring to pay a kicker $22.5M with $13M guaranteed.
I liked Nick Scott a lot as well but- and maybe I'm wrong- I think a healthy Fuller can be just as steady a presence there. And given they have been good at drafting and developing safeties, it was just never likely they would re-sign Scott (or Rapp).
I also tend to look at FA losses by the contracts they get elsewhere. While I'd like to still have Leonard Floyd on this team for sure, here we are on June 27th and he's still a free agent. Greg Gaines is another guy I always liked but he got a one-year deal in Tampa. Same with Rapp and Edwards in BUF. Powell in MIN. Etc. Even Wagner going back to SEA was under a one-year deal.
