Eddie D gave Bill Walsh and his team more payrol $$$$ in SF than your average NFL owner........ Highly unlikely that Georgia and John Shaw would've done that for Bill Walsh. .
There's a reason Hacksaw and Wendall Tyler ended their careers with Bill Walsh, Eddie D spent the money for their franchise.... . Georgia did not.
The Rams did sustain playoff success in the 80's under Georgia because Klosterman / Rosenbloom built a team to last and Dickerson was the perfect match for John Robinson. I think John Robinson did all he could do based on the payroll spend from Georgia and Shaw.
Perhaps Walsh could've groomed Jeff Rutlege to be the next Joe Montana.....BTW Malavasi finally took the Rams to the Super Bowl that year (1979)
Like you said, woulda coulda shoulda, but Rams ownership was a mess during that time frame... SF's ownership was not .
