Chalk all that up as it pertains to Bruss and what you have is a situation where he will either show year two and win that job or he's probably a bust. It's start or bust for Bruss. Because guards don't need multiple years to translate in this league. Taking a rookie redshirt, ok fine. Not ideal but it happens. But by year two he's either gonna be good enough or he isn't.
So my expectation is Bruss wins that job. There won't be some titanic camp battle and if there is it's gonna be bad news.
I dunno, Merlin. I have a suspicion Bruss will still not be ready to go. Instead of spending his first/second season bulking up, refining his technique, and really pushing himself, he's spent most of his tenure rehabbing a very serious knee injury. I wouldn't be surprised to see him still behind the curve and not really hitting his stride until next year.
Boy I hope not. If he's anything other than a slam dunk at RG this year I'm gonna be bummed.
Thing with Bruss is he had good strength to him in college, his tape was quite nice and they took him to put together a power right side run game combo with him and Hav IMO. He just looked like he was lost mentally with the playbook and his pass pro needed work. If he can't go for any reason or is struggling I don't think we're gonna have a very good run game on that right side given our options on the depth chart. Last season soured me greatly on our depth. I might be overreacting here but just how I feel about it. We'll see how it goes though of course.
