And lasted until the third to the last pick in the 6th round? Major FAILURE by 31 other scouting departments and almost 32 as it took us that long to draft him
I drafted him onto my Dynasty team so I also did a little research on him. From what I understand, he was a bit of a challenge to his coaches.
Evans was ranked as a five-star recruit and the number one HS player in the state of Texas in the 2020 class. He was also rated the No. 2 running back in the 2020 recruiting class — behind only Bijan Robinson. But he was suspended and not allowed to play in his team's state championship for being stupid (refused to give up his cell phone).
He had committed to Georgia but his NLI was rescinded over that incident. So Evans told schools during the recruiting process that he and teammate Dameian George, an OT, were a package deal. George wound up at Alabama, which later backed off Evans so he ended up going to TCU instead. He played in nine games as a freshman averaging only about 50 yds a game. He led the team in rushing his soph year but was hurt in their 6th game. The rumor was he didn't like how he was used there and ended up transferring to Miss. St. where he ran for nearly 1000 yds. last year before declaring for the draft.
He will have a couple former TCU teammates with him on the Rams and hopefully he will be a real asset. But his off field antics still haunt him a bit and it's possible his coaches and/or his own interviews didn't go very well which dropped him in the draft. He has a lot of talent on the field but off possibly remains the challenge.
Thanks for that. Explains much.
