I think the Rams are moving on from Akers.....His disappearance last season was all hush hush and the Rams kept it all under the carpet.
Kyren Williams will be much better this season and he'll be our #2 RB.
Rams will TRADE Akers and a draft pick, then MOVE UP and get the RB they want when the timing is right in the Draft. I would not be surprised at all if the Rams move up from #36 to grab Gibbs.....If he's there at #26 - #30, then I think Trader Les is going to go get McVay "his RB."
Strongly disagree, oldschool.
Where to start?
1. Did you not notice that Akers was among league’s best in last third of season while behind a patchwork OL? Right after coach Samples was sent packing and Akers/McVay buried the hatchet? You do NOT offload such a player, especially when you have 15 other holes to fill. Ever…
2. Where is your evidence that Kyren Williams is gonna be a force in this league? I liked the pick, but with the injury and then only scarcely sniffing the field last year I’m still in wait and see mode with Williams. I currently consider him a #3 RB that needs to prove himself.
3. As to trading Akers, what would we get for him? And trading up into the 1st is a pipe dream. Especially for a likely one contract RB when starter caliber RB’s can be had in this draft into the 6th round (according to Alyo). Chiefs won a SB last year behind Pacheco, a 7th round rookie, for crying out loud. RB’s are generally the least valuable, most easily replaced position in the league. In fact, they average 5 year careers and one should be drafted every year just to keep healthy players on the roster.
4. The pundits are saying that true 1st round value is only 15 deep in this draft. Meaning after pick 16 through maybe pick 50 there are only hairsplitting differences in talent between given players. If true, why trade up and lose critically needed picks in the process? Would seem a serious self inflicted wound to me. Especially in THIS draft.
I much prefer trading down from 36 being careful to stay in top 50 and picking up a late 3rd or early 4th, depending. That would give Rams 4 picks in top 100 which is in the heart of the value band in this particular draft. I’m certain that Snead has been burning up the phones seeking all possible trade down scenarios that would make sense for Rams. In fact, I will fall out of my recliner if Rams don’t do at least 2 trade downs by the 4th round.
