Jalen Ramsey got a reworked contract after he was traded to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, but he didn’t force his way out of Los Angeles by asking the Rams for a raise – despite what some have suggested.

Ramsey took to Twitter on Wednesday and shed some light on his split with the Rams, telling his followers that he never asked for a new contract. He also says he wasn’t approached by the team about restructuring his deal, which he says he would have done.

Interestingly, Ramsey said there were two people within the Rams organization that wanted to move in a different direction, so he started looking at teams he could land with.

Tweeted and deleted. Would you have given Jalen Ramsey a new deal? Reminder that Stafford, Donald and Kupp all got one after the Super Bowl. pic.twitter.com/l96nxt2Vnz

Ramsey’s new deal with the Dolphins pays him $55 million over the next three seasons, including $35.5 million guaranteed. It’s a much better deal than what he was set to play on with the Rams, but he didn’t force his way out of Los Angeles by demanding a reworked contract.

As for which two members of the Rams wanted to go in a different direction, it’s probably safe to assume they were Les Snead and Sean McVay – the primary decision-makers within the organization when it comes to the roster.

Los Angeles is in rebuilding mode, despite what Snead and Kevin Demoff have said, and trading Ramsey is a major part of that. It’s not because of the return they got for Ramsey – a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long – but rather the cap space they cleared in 2024.
