The Rams were smart with Stafford by pulling him when they did, it was a lost season. They also provided Mayfield with a chance to show what he could do and earn his next contract. I think Mayfield should be forever grateful to the Rams for giving him this opportunity.
Stafford would've been killed behind that OL. Once he was "healed" the season was lost anyway.m I am sure he could've played but as you said, it was the smart thing to do with him.
Plus, I liked how he still showed up to support his team mates, offer advice or encouragement. That's what team leaders do.
Agreed on Baker too brother! He should be sending half his paycheck to McVay for next season!
