Picking apart individual selections is not really a great metric for judging a GM. On field success is a better lense to view performance through. As disappointing as the Fisher years were, the team did build some talent and was able to tease mediocrity. Prior to that, the teams was a multi year dumpster fire. Snead took a gamble on the youngest coach in NFL history. Yes, Snead brought us McVay. That took guts and vision. He pioneered a new way of thinking about draft capital - instead of gambling on unproven college players and then signing veterans through free agency - use draft capital to trade for talent. And it worked. As others have detailed - from 2017-2021 the teams was one of the most successful in the league.

Has he made some blunders - you bethca. Every GM does. John Schneider was a genius for the drafts that brought the Legion of Boom and Russell Wilson. His drafts after that - not so good. I think all GM's go through cycles. Some of it for Les probably has to with losing Brad Homes and those he took with him. I imagine the assistant coaching staffs have input in the draft as well - with so much turnover there, and the lackluster staff last year - that has to weigh on things as well.

This offseason has been tough to watch unfold, but I'll hold my outrage until we see how things unfold next season. Will we be on the rise again or continuing to spiral? I think it will be the former.
