Well I think you're right that the biggest culprit is right there. The Rams had a plan after miller. According to jourdan it was to repeat 2021. Create a pass rush that was good enough until they could find a trade to make it elite. But that plan fell apart. Terrell Lewis and Justin Hollis couldn't get pressure and Leonard Floyd was injured. So they crapped out there. They also failed to find a trade. Crapped out there too. You can make the argument that signing Bobby Wagner instead of spending that money on another pass rusher was a mistake too. So I agree with you on all of those points. Those were all flaws that the Rams made. But that's not exclusively Morris's issue and he doesn't exclusively take the blame for that.
And ask for being more creative with the scheme, I'm sure we would all love that. We all want to create the legion of boom part 2. But you need to have legion of boom part 2 pieces. You make up for a lack of pass rush by having a premier pass coverage unit. Did we have that? Absolutely not. So what adjustments would you make if you were morris? Also the idea that our defensive scheme is not aggressive is a bit misguided in my opinion. Playing in a shell doesn't mean that you can't be aggressive. Actually, if our defensive backs were playing it correctly, there should have been plenty of passes to jump and create turnovers with. But they just weren't good enough. But the bottom line will always be for me that we've seen this scheme work. You have to have the right parts though. So I don't know why we talk so much about the soft shell when it's been successful and so much of the league uses it. The conversation needs to be on the Rams and ability to develop defensive backs over the past season.
