Check out what happened between 2005 and 2017. The only two coaches who did anything since 2000 are Martz & McVay. It was amazing 18 years ago how many people wanted to kick Martz to the curb. And what did we get? A 12 year drought.
Martz won the West 3 times in five years, 4 playoff appearances, one SB berth
The next 6 coaches spanning 12 seasons: **zero** playoff appearances
Now McVay: 5 winning seasons in 6 years, 2 SB appearances and 1 championship. And now you wanna move on after one bad year (which could simply be due to injuries)? All I have to say is be careful what you wish for,
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike Martz, 2000 - 2005. 56-36 (.609) Finished 1st in the NFC West 3 times, finished 2nd the other three times, made the playoffs 4 times in 6 years with 1 Super Bowl appearance (a loss to the Patriots after the 2001 season). Took a leave of absence in 2005 after a 2-3 start due to a bacterial infection in his heart and was fired at the end of that season.
Joe Vitt, 2005. 4-7 (.364) The Rams finished 6-10. Amazingly that was good for 2nd place in the NFC West ... but missed the playoffs.
Scott Linehan, 2006 - 2008. 11-25 (.306) Finished 2nd & 4th in the NFC West his first 2 seasons and was fired after an 0-4 start in 2008. No playoff appearances.
Jim Haslett, 2008. 2-10 (.167) Finished what Linehan started: the Rams were 2-14, last in the NFC West
Steve Spagnuolo, 2009 - 2011. 10-38 (.208) Two 4th place finishes and one 2nd place finish in the NFC West. No playoff appearances.
Jeff Fisher, 2012 - 2016. 31-45-1 (.409) Finished 3rd or 4th in the NFC West his first 4 years, fired in 2016 after a 4-9 start. No playoff appearances.
John Fassel, 2016. 0-3 (.000) Finished what Fisher started: the Rams were 4-12, 3rd in the NFC West (and missed the playoffs).
Sean McVay, 2017 - present. 60-38 (.612) Five straight winnings seasons before 2022, four playoff appearances, won the NFC West three times, finished 2nd once, and finished 3rd twice. Two Super Bowl appearances, lost the first, won the second.
