Yeah the C-17 is kind alike the C-5..

in that its just stupid big.. I remember you could play football in the cargo area on the C-5.. and then had to climb a ladder to the cockpit..
My C-5 story is not as good as yours, but will score some points on the coolness factor gauge.. The reason we were in the C-5 was actually to do a course on the landing gear.. For those who don't know, the C-5's landing gear is MASSIVE.. So massive, that in order to retract into the plane, the entire landing gear assembly has to rotate 90 degrees sideways while its being retracted.. So, the C-5 we used was actually on blocks, so they could retract the gear while the C-5 was on the ground.. Which they did, as many times as we asked them to so we could shoot video for reference..
The REALLY cool part was we were allowed to climb up into the C-5 landing gear bay and watch the landing gear retract up into the bay.. Just an amazing feat of engineering in order for that HUGE bird to take off and land safely...
