I think missing that early time could preclude NB from being the LOT next year.

By the time OTAs happen, which he'll miss, they would already have had to form a plan for who is going to play the all important LOT position and at that point free agency and the draft would have passed. OTAs is where they install the offense and make projections in pencil ahead of training camp of who they feel will be the starters.

If he's behind schedule with his rehab or growth as the full time starter, they won't have much leeway to course correct. Sure the coaches probably already have a strong feeling based on past data with NB, but as Kromer said just yesterday in discussing Edwards, even the coaches "really don't know what you have in a player until they are thrown in there."

It's different than Kupp's situation. He was coming off a year as a starter at that position already. The only unknown there is exactly when he will come back but as long as that date is certain to be by the season opening, there is little risk in penciling him in as the starting slot WR.

We're not talking about a vet who has proven he can start at that position. They're gonna handle that different than someone who had proven that IMO.

I think what's more likely given NB's injury is that, if they're not picking up a vet or bringing Whit back for a year, they slide Edwards into that LOT spot right at the beginning for at least the 2020 season.
