I think you are confusing the definition of injury that ZN points out with what MJD, and maybe even Gurley himself, have said. Gurley may very well have used the word 'injury' speaking to MJD colloquially, and MJD simply parroted what Gurley said. Most educated journalists are very careful about semantics, and given that a lot of sports information in the media is given by ex-athletes and other people from popular culture, I think it's more likely that MJD is wrong instead of right.
