A debate if AD is gonna be disgustingly rich or REALLY disgustingly rich. I REALLY hope it works out but if AD and his agent keep on, I could not care less if he hits the bricks. I said the same thing about Eric Dickerson. Eventually it becomes a distraction to the TEAM. Even Dickerson said he wished he conducted himself differently. I used to get worked up over these contracts. I recall tuning in EVERY day in 1985 to see if Dickerson signed. I was 18 then. As an adult busting my ass to simply make ends meet, I have lost a lot of enthusiasm to sweat out whether ANY football player making millions is gonna get a "FAIR"???? pay raise. Not to mention, I am a Los Angeles RAMS fan......THE TEAM! LOTS of other guys that will need their "FAIR" paydays soon also. Donald is set to make a helluva payday (Just with the Rams best offer) and be on a team that has a VERY bright future with MULTIPLE playoff runs. We will soon see how much AD really cares.
Well everyone has to feel free to express their views.
Mine is simple. Donald deserves a certain amount according to every fair and decent appraisal of his value in the league.
And it's not up to us to moralize about what he should think about money. That's just fear of roster disruption or of losing the player translated into a screed about how people in a unique position should mirror our own personal ideas about money.
The exact same thing happened in the 2000 off-season when the Rams started balking at paying Warner what he was due and some wondered if there would be a hold-out. The team (really, Zygmunt) leaked stuff disparaging Warner and many fans on (an earlier version of) this board bashed Warner for wanting money and even questioned whether the Rams needed him. There was this moralistic idea that he should sell himself short to please our view of what he should think about money. I defended him then, and I defend Donald now.
For every person now who blames the delay on Donald and gets going about greedy players and how many millions does a person need (owners are exempt from this apparently) there is another person who worries that the Rams will screw this up by lowballing him and trying to pay him less than the market says he deserves (just like Zygmunt wanted to do with Warner in 2000).
It's not our money, and no one here in their line of work should settle for less than what they deserve.
