What I find amazing is the access she has. No wonder she thinks like McSnead. Anyway it is a great article and gives a glimpse into how the draft preparation process works in the land of Sneadby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
This really isn't a big deal. My view is Stafford wants to play 3 - 5 more years and his contract doesn't support that. So he looking for more guaranteed money and a couple more years. Doesn't that work for the Rams and Stafford? Even if it is to just guarantee the remaining contract what is wrong with that? He as found a home and wants to control things and I don' t blame him. Thanks for that post. I seems the kid was great in his 1st year then had injuries for the next 2 season before coming back and having a superb year. Based on the talent and production this kid seems like he has the potential to be a force. Yes there is risk on the injury side but getting a 6th rounder with the potential to be a force on the DL is well worth the gamble. Seems like he could mby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
You have to feel good about the Safety position on this team with the addition of Kinchens. He is only 21 so there may be some maturity that needs to take place but it seems like he has some traits that are natural and can't be taught. We have multiple guys that can play close to the line and play deep. Good days aheadby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think this is a great situation for the kid. He can learn from the best without pressure of having to be the immediate backup. If he can be a really good backup next season he will turn out to be a very successful draft pick. Finding a good backup QB at a low cap hit is a big deal.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Going into the off season I felt that we needed to acquire a high caliber RB due to Williams running style and injury history. Last year the drop off was huge. I was bummed going into the draft as the RB class was very weak. It seemed all the top RB had big holes in their game. The top guy from Texas (I think) was coming off an ACL and didn't even play. Corum was rated high but consideredby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Evans would seem to be on the bubble and Corum a lock to make the team. Evans has talent but wasn't ready last year, especially when it came to blocking to protect the QB. The kid has talent and he has a year of development and another training came to get it together. Williams and Corum are locks to make the team. Evans probably has to beat out Rivers or there is an injury that allows him toby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Dead, I got to take my hat off to you this year. You seem to get better with age. Not only are your player evals pretty good but over the years you have really tried to think like McSnead and this year you did a find job. Even if you missed on the OC you see the fit, weren't surprised other than to say they finally picked a OC, it is about time. Anyway loved you review, your self refleby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Did the Rams overpay? Do we base the analysis on a trade value chart developed years ago which is only a guideline? The Rams made a calculation that Fiske wasn't going to be around when they picked. They determined he was the guy the really wanted and was critical to the success of the 2024 teams success. So they found a partner and made a trade based on the what the market demanded in paymby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
At this point we really have don't know how these guys will do. They seem to have great potential but every team thinks that especially those taken in the first 3 rounds. Last year our guys were rated that high and we hit on a bunch of them and some bit time like Puka, Young and Turner. So measuring the success for failure of the draft at this point in time contains a lot of guessing, hopiby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I can remember buying and waiting for Joel Bushsbaum's draft books to come out. Yes he was the first and Kiper seemed to be the 2nd. Bother dedicated and historic figures for the NFL draft.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Just checking my post and saw I overlooked the addition of a great Kicking prospect. Based on last year that is at least 2 more wins. Love what McSnead did even more now.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Here is what we do know. McSnead wanted Fiske and thought they had to give up next years 2nd rounder to get him. Now the question on why not one of this years 3rd rounders are would it have gotten the deal done or did they like who they could get in the 3rd Corum and prioritize it over next years 2nd round pick. It had to be one of those 2 things but not sure which one it was.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
First I would like to say what a great draft. I just wanted to take a moment and look at it in the context of our total off season and I am excited for next year. Offense: Great QB, a High Caliber Backup, and a talented Developmental, emphasis on the mental? QB room RB: Pro Bowl Running Back, Great RB Drafted similar style Depth and Production Offensive Line: Kept Dotson added anoby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Mel could be a bit excitable to the extreme. He toned it down and has done something with his hair. Still a B+ is a great gradeby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Sounds like the the injury bug and maybe some refinement in playing with leverage are the only hits on this guy. Sounds like some good coaching can help big time and on technique. So if the overcomes the injury issues he is a steal where we picked him. If he had a healthy career instead of being injured where does he go? 2nd round? The injury bug issue was hung on Puka last year and he lby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I agree after the 3-6 start we were a different more mature team. While we have many new players we have a young core who figured out how to win games. Not only that they expected that they would win games. A young team matured with amazing speed. That must be attributed to the quality of the young players and the excellence of the coaching who focused on teaching and development. Yes the Rby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Williams measurables don't add up which is why he lasted until the 5th round. However, his all round game and development as a legit big time rusher are not in question. He is a top back in the league. Corum got better testing numbers and has great production in college. I have a lot of hope for him but let's see how he does playing with the big boys before we get too too excited.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
This guys is exactly what we needed to solidify our offense. Williams is great, much better than we could have ever dreamed of but he runs hard and so far in 2 seasons he has missed time due to injuries. The Dropoff has been huge when Williams gets hurt and it costs us precious games. Corum has a similar running style and while he doesn't give the defense that much of a different look he cby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I am glad they let the draft come to them too. Of course that is because it worked out. Do they try and move up for Newton? Or do they see really great depth in the 2/3 rounds and look to grab 3 more players? It will be interesting to see how they have evaluated the draft board and the decisions they make. Either way we probably are going to draft at least 2 really good players today.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I have learned to Trust McSnead. There will be mistakes and miscalculations each draft but the real point is getting guys who can play and excel and they do a great job of that. Some guys, Williams for instance, take a year, before we see the vison and value of the pick. We have to remember these are young guy and many still have to grow up a bit and great coaching can help that process. Butby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
It would sure be great if Aaron Donald decided to have some fun and show up and do some teaching and mentoring of these you Rams. He just might have some fun and fulfilment in retirement without having to dedicate or commit to a full time coaching gig. Positively impacting others is a great privilege and brings great satisfaction.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think we are going to need to move up to get him.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I felt great when we picked this guy but the more you know him and how the Rams saw him it reminds me of how they talked about Turner last year. The saw a guy they just had to have. With Verse they saw a guy they really wanted to make a Ram but they were patient. We got a building block type love it.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Verse fill a huge Need and He was great value at where we were picking. Great pick, great Guy, a grown man who will be ready to play. Not sure where he ranked on their board but you can tell they love the kid.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Newton, if they picked him is not a reach. Most have him rated around where the Rams are picking. What we don't know is where he sits on the Rams draft board. The whole world had Turner as a Major reach say he was picked 2 rounds early and they were totally wrong. Saying a guy who may be picked 2 or 3 slots above where draft writers have him ranked and calling him a reach is just plain dumbby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
She is the best writer and knows how the Rams think better than anyone. This is why she can ask the great question. She thinks like McSnead thinks. Whether it is how the organization is constructed, the culture of the team etc. She also has great understand of all the players and how they fit and what they are working on. She did an analysis of Buglers mock draft and had insights on each oby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Stetson Bennett has the skills to be a good backup QB and he is cheap. Is he over his "problem"? That is the big question but if he is we need to switch gears in how we are thinking. With Jimmy G. we have a high quality backup which gives Stetson a 1 year roadway until he needs to step into the number 2 role. We then have a quality backup on cost control for 2 more years. I agree that Thomas at 19 looks interesting. Great size, Speed and can catch the ball. McVay can figure out how to get him open and with Kupp he can learn a more advance route tree and techniques to confuse DBs. Odunze probably requires a trade up but the kid is going to be available.
