I totally understand the underdog finally getting in a meaningful postseason game and being outclassed.. and your heart goes out to them..

Back in my tennis days, I was playing a tournament and was expected to at least get to the finals (there was one dude that I just could not beat in town) and in the first or second round I played this kid who's mom was there cheering him on.. He wasn't very good, and after a while I started taking it easier on him out of compassion for not only him, but his mom, as well - nobody should see their son get demolished..

Afterward (and I know you were thinking he pulled it together and beat me because I took it easy, but no, pretty sure it was 6-0, 6-0) we met at the net to shake hands and he was crying - lightly.. not boo-hooing, but tears rolling down his face) and I did my best to make him feel better and to try and convince him to keep plugging away.. his mom was tearing up, too, so I just did my best to be a good sport and pat him on the back and be supportive..

I don't remember most of my matches from that time period, but I do remember that one.. As an adult I've often wondered what happened to that kid and others from other instances..
