Here in the central valley we aren't familiar with the HS's on or near the coast that only recently came into our central valley leagues/divisions. So I really didn't have a thing to go on other than our opponents W/L record mostly against other coastal towns/cities.
We move on... round two... and our next game will NOT be easy.
My take away from the game last night: There is a platform built on the stands that our HS uses when, rarely, a radio station broadcasts our games. It's used maybe once or twice a year. I sit there to take video so no one can stand up in front of me. Last night a Santa Ynez radio station came and broadcasted the game back home. I got to meet them.
Santa Ynez is a small town down by Santa Barbara - about a 4 hour drive away. They were "Excited". This was their first EVER playoff game. It was sad hearing the announcer call the game... they started VERY well, nice time consuming drive that stalled inside our 5... they settled for a FG. That was it.. thereafter we took complete control.
After the game the team AND parents/fans from Santa Ynez gathered on our field and remained there a LONG time after the game..... obviously I wasn't part of that BUT.... been there done that. I know it was emotional... and filled with pride. They had a very good season.
Ashton got very limited play, did have 1 TD.... but they rested him because of his shoulder. Rest of the team stepped up BIG TIME. - JamesJM
