WWI planes are my favorite.. there's, of course the Fokker DR1, which, for those who don't know, is the Red Baron's triplane.. but, that's actually NOT my favorite WWI plane.. and it wasn't Richthofen's favorite plane either.. His and my favorite was the Albatross DIII.. Holy cow that was a sexy plane.. Kind of like a shark with wings.. always been my favorite.. I really don't know why Richthofen stuck with the Fokker, when I know, for a fact, the Albatross was his favorite..
Yeah, you lucky dog - got to fly in a B-17... I've been inside one, as you know.. shocked at how small the passage from cockpit to body of the plane was.. I could not imagine crawling through that if the plane was going down.. Ball turret was my favorite position, but soooooo dangerous.. i do recall reading about one 17 that had to belly flop land cuz the wheels were shot.. and the ball turret guy couldn't get out, so he KNEW what was coming and could only sit there and take certain death..
Pretty sure I told you I got to fly in a B-25.. but, only in the main body and the tail gunner positions.. I had pics from both spots.. can't find them on this computer..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
