I think that episode is my favorite out of all 9 seasons of The Waltons. It moves me to tears every time I watch it. Right now I'm watching Little House on the Prairie which I never watched when it was on tv, either. There were 24 episodes in season 1. I have two more episodes to go before I'm done with season 1 and will have 8 more seasons to go. Since the pandemic started, I've been finding tv series that I never watched the first time around and getting caught up, even though it's decades later. I'm really enjoying most of them. It takes me a long time to get through them though. I don't really binge watch anything so I just squeeze them in whenever I can.
Back in the 70's and 80's, it was normal for a series to have 20-26 episodes in a season. Nowadays, it's more like 10 episodes in a season. Just when you're getting immersed in a series... the season ends till the next season comes along. And sometimes there's more than a year in between seasons so it's hard to remember what the heck happened in the previous season!
