About 3 years ago I convinced my sister that we should consider selling out.... all our land. Calif. is not friendly to agriculture so before the govt. just takes it we should make the movie. We have a little time, but not a lot.
We've thought about Oregon... but I know several farmers there who say Oregon is headed the same way Calif. is but perhaps even more quickly... and I'd like to have some land... SOOOO...
(BTW... you're just looking for a home, Oregon is a great choice, LOVE that state, at least as far as the geography).
We're looking out west.... Montana and Wyoming have great opportunities, but WOW the winters. Utah is high on my list... the southern part of the state. Also Colorado, New Mexico, perhaps Arizona, Colorado isn't bad although a little more pricey, South Dakota but again, the winters.
I'm trying to keep an open mind so even though I have a bias against anything east of Colorado I've seen some great deals in Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas... Nebraska and Kansas are a little more flat than I'd prefer... NOT that they aren't beautiful but I've been a flatlander my whole life so a change would be nice.
Back in the far east it's beautiful, for sure... but just too congested for me.... I grew up in wide open spaces and even though I'm sure I could handle more congestion that where I live I think the far east would asphyxiate me. I could be wrong, having never lived there how would I know.... maybe a couple hundred acres in Vermont, or even 100, would be perfect.
