and never get over the loss, fully.. Lucie was just so very special to us.. she was a special needs Beagle we got when she was about 6 months old.. just scared to death of everything and everyone.. we worked with her so much to get over that, but she never really got used to people coming over and would hide, but then try to sneak through the room the neighbors were in.. it was funny..
2-3 years before she passed she went blind.. VERY fast.. Just maybe two weeks total to totally losing her sight.. we took her to a specialist in Dallas could diagnosed SARDS.. there was nothing we could do.. I put 4" foam rubber strips all over the house to keep her from bonking her poor little head.. Thousands of times she'd be headed for disaster and I'd yell, "Look out Lucie look out!".. and she'd be spared.. One day on a walk I just sensed she wanted to just run, but was afraid to since she couldn't see.. I got her in the middle of the road and just started running with her on the leash.. she trusted me and eventually started running full blast.. I've never had any living thing trust me that much..
I've told the story of seeing Gypsie on facebook two days after losing Lucie.. and HAVING to do something for her and eventually adopted her and flew to Atlanta to get her.. That was 5 years ago and Gypsie was 4 years old then, so she's getting older.. when I lose her, I'm going to be a complete mess for a long time..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
