hearing an rumblings on St Louis getting a expansion team
part of that St Louis vs Stan Kroenke / NFL deal ?
Yes, it would be part of the lawsuit the city of St Louis has waged against Stan Kroenke.
It is NOT a given, at this point, that an expansion team will happen. What's been reported locally is that getting an expansion team as "compensation" is not as far-fetched as once thought because the NFL wants to avoid this thing going to trial... which is where it is headed in January. I guess they might be willing to do that in order to prevent the possibility of them losing half their wealth, which attorneys being interviewed here have said could happen. So far, Kroenke has lost at just about everything he's tried to do to get the case thrown out, moved, lessened, laughed at, etc. The NFL does NOT want to go to trial. Interesting, eh?
I've heard some fans would welcome an NFL expansion team but I'm not one of them. I don't want an NFL expansion team.
Why not?
1) I don't trust the NFL, Stan Kroenke, or the other owners to do right by St Louis as far as I can spit. All you have to do is look at their behavior before and during the relocation and you should understand. Besides, I just know there'd be something in the deal that would come out later that would make us look like idiots for taking the deal, I guarantee it. We'd still have stadium issues and financing to deal with all over again. Gotta remember, these are the same guys that lied to us and led us on for months and then kicked us in the teeth as they slammed the door without even a thank-you for being home for 22 years. Nah. Been there, done that. I say... PASS. Continue on with the trial and let the chips fall where they may.
2) 33 teams would make the divisions uneven, which I don't like. Wouldn't that cause some scheduling problems within the NFC West or would that just mean the NFC West would play fewer games outside the division? It doesn't really matter. I'm hoping it doesn't happen anyhow.
