My grandsons that played football, all of them, played for the town of Kerman. The game yesterday was in Tranquillity, my home town.
Mid-70's I, and 4 others, started Tranquillity's youth football program. I named them, "The Aggies". I was their first head coach for the first 12 years. SOOOO...
When Kerman meets tranquillity, (once every 4 years), I'm rooting for my grandsons... but I'm not rooting against Tranquillity.
Tranquillity can barely field teams, low population. Kerman has no problem. So the game wasn't close... 29 to 0 at the half... and kudos to Kerman who pulled nearly all their starters to start the second half. So that sets the scene for what I'm about to describe -
There is less than a minute to go in the game... Tranquillity still has 0 points. My grandson, a starter, is in the game... him and one other starter. Tranquillity is on our 15... by FAR the closest they have come all game to scoring. Tranquillity's coaches, ( I don't know them), are NOT using the clock wisely... or maybe they just want the game to end? But they have a chance to score... and they begin with a weak side sweep.... which my grandson stops for a loss of 5yds. I want Tranquillity to score.
It comes down to the last play.... and they decide to pass the ball.... and they COMPLETE it... on about the 7yd line... only pass they have completed. Short but stocky receiver only has to bull his way forward to erase that 0 from the scoreboard..... but, and once again, my grandson comes from opposite side of the field and crushes the receiver down and out of bounds on the 3. The final gun sounds. Tranquillity fails to score.
I congratulated my grandson.. great game, leading tackler and scored 2 TD's... also had a pick 6 called back on a penalty. And my Aggies.... failed to score. I can't say I was torn, I wanted Kerman to win! At the same time I can also say I was sad, my Aggies didn't get off to good start.
I wish they didn't play each other, to be honest... that make sense?
Post Game Report... about 7 or 8 of the Kerman team came and spent the night at my house last night... watching game film... but very little.... instead going outside to play basketball, coming in to play video games, then back back out for more activity in the front yard, then back in, then out, then in, then out. I didn't sleep well last night.
