My grandson plays on the Jr's... he's about 90lbs.... about average or just a little above for his team... BUT... we have 3 lineman that are 200lbs or more. One is definitely due to being overweight but the 2 others are also near 6' tall... slightly pudgy but definitely not obese.
4 towns were at our scrimmage and our team had the fewest 'giants'... the other teams had 4 to 6, (that I saw), players as big and bigger than our biggest kids. Yes... some obesity, but not all.... they are HUGE.
There is no weight limit anymore... hasn't been now, (in our league), for 3 years or so? The heavier kids, (can't remember the weight cutoff), can't be RB's or WR's however, or TE's, they have to play on the line. They're given a white stripe on their helmets to distinguish them.
So ok, I don't know what to think about 200lb PLUS kids playing with 65 pounders.... I'm dubious lets say... BUT... they researched this thoroughly and the consensus medical opinion, (studies of youth injuries), was that the weight difference is almost a non-factor. I'm just reporting what I've been told... but have also read somewhat.
BTW... we looked very, very good.... almost certainly we'll make a run for the championship this year... the Jr's I mean. We've got a 'Tutu' on our team.... 60lbs at most but faster than, well, Tutu I think. The kid is a flash. - JamesJM
