to witness abuse.. I've gone on runs after snow/ice storms where we just drive through alleys looking at backyards looking for animals with no shelter or water.. heartbreaking to see dogs freezing to death with no shelter.. water bowls that were solid ice.. half of the dogs on chains (illegal in Texas) that were too short for them to get into their dog houses, or under any type of shelter.. some covered in snow..
I wanted to beat the owners.. the leaders of these efforts had zero issues banging on people's doors and educating them on their pure stupidity.. We'd donate and drop off bails of hay, dog food, new collars (we found lots of embedded collars) and even dog houses.. we'd drive around the next day and find the same issue at the same house..
But, if we had the dogs removed, they would be euthanized.. It was really tough trying to figure out what to do.. educating the owners was always the best answer, but most of them don't care.. was a very tough position to be in..
