The number of "homes" I have gone to where animals are in CRAP conditions killed me and took a toll. Both me and my Firefighter went off on some IDIOTS, about 5 years ago, who had a large dog in a small cage, sitting out in the 1PM sun in July. The only "shade" the dog had was a door mat that covered half the cage. We were there on a EMS call. As soon as we cleared the call, we went straight to Animal Control. I thought we'd get in trouble for how we handled the family. We told them about the dog and their DUMBA$$ response was..... Uh..well..uhhhhhh That's my Cousin's dog. My Firefighter snapped... "I DON'T GIVE A F**** who's dog it is, THAT is F*****G ABUSE!!!!! I was lighter but with a pissy tone. I told them it's simple Common Sense and Compassion....Lacking around here. That was in a neighborhood where we'd see people who don't give a damn about THEMSELVES but there's always ANOTHER baby on the way and 2-3 "Pets" running around. That one particular day, I thought FOR SURE, we'd get a phone call from H.Q. about our response. We did not care.
