I know for me it's not so much the individual accomplishments as it is the entire spectacle. We tend to think the US is or should be, the best in all competitions since that is pretty much all we know. Turns out there are so many excellent athletes from all around the world that we know little about. Its always eye-opening for me. Sport is something that we earthlings all have in common. To me that brings hope and why I love the Olympics.
