My son raced for College of Idaho and our grandson (16) now races in the Far West Ski competitions. Me? Two hip replacements my ortho says keep off the slopes. If one goes out in a fall your in a lot of trouble. His words and he's a skier. So, I'll stick to the ocean.
If I recall the gondola at Sunrise was a long, long, ride to the top. Again, that was in 88. My wife and I had only a couple of runs before hurricane force winds shut down the mountain-naturally with the two of us at the top waiting for the gondola which itself was being stopped due to the winds. Not a fun day. OTOH the Olympics were one of those things you do and remember forever -even though we were there for the opening ceremonies (sat with the Russians and their very expensive mink coats, hats, and gloves), and then for a few days into the events.
Problem with Calgary is you may know are the chinook winds that come from the prairies. You can be in 0 (F) degree weather and within a half an hour it will be 50 degrees once the wind begins. They had to cancel the downhill twice while we were there because of this.
Great memories of Calgary.
