When I was a kid pheasants could be as thick as flocks of blackbirds. I believe they are completely gone today, or at least I haven't seen one in the wild for many years.
We still have jackrabbits here but their numbers have been drastically reduced. Cotton tails are still numerous.
There is a stretch of road just west of me, Adams Ave., where all land was taken out of production several years ago.... I often ride my motorcycle along this road because it leads to some good coast range mtn riding routes... but I have to be careful because wildlife is still in abundance there. I've hit several jackrabbits and you can imagine how scary that can be because they can get VERY big. I've missed a few coyotes as well... but the worst are the owls, if i'm riding at night. I've come to believe that are actually trying to take me out.
