Meeting a Titanic survivor is amazing... how did that come about?

I'm old enough that WWI survivors were many when I was young.... and I believe the last Civil War Vet died in 1955? So I would have been 7 when he died... but I never met a Civil War Vet.

It's always been amazing to me that my grandfather, (my best friend when I was growing up), was born 4 years BEFORE the shootout at the OK Corral took place.

I believe the last Civil War Widow passed away not that long ago... just a few years. How, you ask? One of those marriages where a very old Civil War Vet, (in his 80's if memory serves), married a girl no more than 20. Quite an age difference, huh? That must have been both a blessing AND a curse.
