it was actually a squirrel that I saw get hit, and it didn't kill him immediately, but to see him suffering for even ten seconds, just ripped my heart out.. I Think I mentioned that as soon as I saw him trying to move, I went to one knee and prayed for two things: that he didn't suffer anymore and that I wouldn't have to put him out of his misery.. Both prayers were answered almost immediately.. I didn't want him to just lay there in the street, so I got him and buried him in my backyard next to Barney, the first Beagle we had here at this house.. 30 minutes later, I kept staring at the blood stains in the street and decided I didn't want to see that every time I went outside, so I cleaned it up..

I totally understand what you mean about sometimes grieving more over pets than humans.. Pets are innocent, they never do you wrong, lie to you, cheat on you, or screw you over.. Every time you come home they act like the French when Lindbergh landed and most of the time they just want to be with you, no questions asked..
