the first main band I played with.... I say 'main' to indicate a band that played gigs throughout the area... not just local stuff in garages.... had two drummers. It didn't last long. But not because of 'friction'.
Soon after being brought onboard our lead singer quit the band so I stepped up to the mic, and from then on we played with one drummer. Until AFTER my stint in the Army I was always the lead singer, never played drums.
The week I got out of the Army I started a band... as the drummer, but I sang quite a few songs while drumming. These days I sing as 'few' songs as possible, just not into it. But, I have the most vocal range in all the bands I've played in since then so I have to sing some of the songs. Today.... I'd have to check to be sure, but I'd say I'm down to 'lead' vocal on 5 songs maybe? And we don't play all those 5 at any given gig.
I do sing a LOT of harmony. - JamesJM
