Truly, they are remarkable....

And very well trained. Obviously you can't tell from that photo I posted but that entire area is some of the most rugged country you can imagine. My ranch not so much... it has rugged areas but mostly it's somewhat 'open', although steep... making it perfect as a cattle ranch. Where the fire is, however... is more like the top of my ranch, (BLM ground we lease)... extremely steep, riddled with ravines, brush so thick you can't crawl through it... not to mention no shortage or rattlesnakes.

Most of the work is by air, as you would suspect... but that doesn't mean no ground work... Dozers are everywhere, along with firemen, (mostly volunteers), working by hand - shoves, chain saws, etc. Amazing.

In the 80's during the fire that burned my ranch we were allowed on, (but had to be in radio contact with them), to monitor and notify them should cattle stray onto our land (at the time we didn't have any cattle ourselves, but with the fences down a few came onto our land to escape the flames).... and while there we all sat and watched the Fireman do their thing... we were in awe.
