I'd be happy to help you with the drum machine..

Funny thing is, now, I got the Presonus Studio One that I run off the Mac and now I program drums inside Studio One, which is SOOOOOO much easier.. For one, if you wanna do a different song, you just save the existing song under a different name and you retain all the drum patterns you already created.. You also can buy an absolute BUTTLOAD of pre-programmed midi drum beats, fills, intros etc.. and you just drag and drop them into your songs..

So, I already have 4 songs wit the drums just about finished.. what's cool is if I wanna change drum son any of them, I just open the song and fire away.. with the drum machine,, you'd hafta save your current song, load your other song, re-assign all the pads to whatever you assigned them to.. Not any more.. open the song and start plugging away.. and with SO many beats and fills available (from 70's rock to speed metal, death metal, punk, skate, jazz, blues etc) if you don't wanna program the beats, you just find one you like and throw it in your song..

But one of the BEST new functions is that people have created AMAZING drum kits that you can buy from anywhere from $5 to $40.. I mean, REALLY good sounding kits.. they went in the studio and recorded the samples with multiple mics on each drum, so you can absolutely get whatever sound you want..

I LOVE my old Alesis HR-16.. I have a very softspot for it in my heart because we spent so much time together.. but doing drums on Studio One, or any other DAW really, is 100x better.. its a jump as big as recording analog on tape to recording digitally..

Remember when you had to hit the next button to work your way through the pattern in order to assign kick and snare to each spot? With DAW you SEE the entire 16 or 32 beats and you just click on each spot to add the drum.. and you can loop the pattern and add and remove drums until it sounds right to you..

Way easier, man.. can't remember if you were wanting the drum machine for live use or studio (seems like it was live) but I really think the computer DAW setup is the way to go.. Just think, live-wise you just load whatever song (unlimited numbers of songs) by opening it and its ready to go, with all the effects you've added to drums, mixed just like you want, running off a laptop, or whatever.. I know I'll never got back, just like I knew I'd never go back to analog recording..

Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
