Although somewhat disguised - - Very common for a drummer to use a tambourine on top of the Hi-Hat. Many of the kits on electronic drums have this effect. It sounds a bit different than a handheld tambourine... creating somewhat of a 'sizzle' to the Hi-Hat when closed and does not simulate the rattle of a handheld tambourine.
